Fossa Chocolate is based in Singapore (one of my favorite countries and a foodie’s paradise). They handcraft and individually wrap all of their chocolate bars. They offer a wide selection of chocolates with unique and interesting flavors.
About the Bar
Product Description: This luscious bar has roasted white sesame seeds pounded and added with dried seaweed into our signature caramelised white chocolate. A generous topping of dry roasted puffed rice lends a toasty flavour and provides a crunch.
Ingredients: Cocoa butter, milk powder, white sesame, cane sugar, puffed rice, seaweed, sea salt
Review of Chocolate
General Thoughts
I love that this chocolate bar is made in Singapore as it is one of my favorite countries. While that doesn’t directly impact the taste, it does influence my overall impressions which will change the experience.
Sight
The bar has a slightly tan color from the caramelized white chocolate, and there are clearly pieces of seaweed embedded throughout.
Sound
The snap of the chocolate is on the softer side, but is decent for for white chocolate which tends to have a softer snap in general.
Smell
Nutty smell reminiscent of peanut butter or tahini, which is probably coming from the sesame seeds.
Taste
The bar has a nice umami flavor with an ever so slightly bitter taste. There is a nice tahini flavor rounded out well by gentle caramelized undernotes. I do not really taste the seaweed per se, but it might be what is providing some of the slight salty notes. The nutty butter flavor lingers a bit after you eat the chocolate, but it is not bad taste so I am not too disappointed.
Mouthfeel
Very creamy, melting, and soft mouthfeel with a warming feeling. The puffed rice creates a slight coarseness and crunchiness. White chocolate generally seems to feel more coco fat heavy and which I assume is what makes this bar feel like it coats the mouth more than a dark or milk chocolate bar would.
Conclusions
Overall, I really enjoyed this chocolate bar and would definitely buy it again! Would recommend this bar.
